The Polk County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Section will open their doors Dec. 23, 2004, to offer pets for adoption in time for the Christmas holiday. Thursday, Dec. 23, is a county government holiday, but PCSO Animal Control will remain open in order to offer this unique opportunity for families to adopt a pet for the holidays.
Numerous pets will be available for adoption. All animals have been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and will be ready to go home that day with a new family in time for Christmas. Families hoping to adopt a new pet can visit the PCSO Animal Control facility, located at 7115 DeCastro Road in Winter Haven, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Dec. 23.
Also offered that day will be a special $5 fee for rabies vaccinations available to Polk residents currently receiving public assistance (proof of public assistance required), with the purchase of the required county license. License costs are $25 for dogs and cats not spayed or neutered, and $10 for those who are spayed or neutered.
