 Two Winter Haven men charged with possessing and operating gambling machines at Convenience Store 


On Monday, January 8, Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to the 7 Days Food Mart located at 1123 6th St. NW Winter Haven after receiving a tip that Gambling Devices were being operated within the store. Detectives found three separate upright Gambling Devices that were fully operational by the front checkout counter. Two “Electronic Cherry Picker” Gambling Devices operated just like traditional slot machines. Detectives also located a quarter machine that allows a player to insert quarters with hopes of causing multiple quarters to fall from a platform within.  All three devices are in Violation of FSS 849 (Florida gambling statute) and were seized. 

Detectives also discovered the store owner and clerk were selling drug scales, glass pipes and Chore Boy screens used in conjunction with illegal drugs. 

Both men were arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail.  They are: 

22-year-old Mitul Patel (store employee) of 7565 Carlton Arms Blvd., Winter Haven, FL.  Charges: Keeping a Gambling House (F-3), Possession of Gambling Devices (3 Counts—M-1), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (M-1). 

28-year-old Vishal Kartikkumar Patel (store owner) of 7565 Carlton Arms Blvd., Winter Haven, FL.  Charges: Keeping a Gambling House (F-3), Possession of Gambling Devices (3 Counts—M-1), Wholesale Distribution of Drug Paraphernalia (F-3).  

Vishal Patel has been released from the Polk County Jail on $3,500 bond.  Mitul Patel has been released from the Polk County Jail on $3,000 bond.
