On Thursday, February 2, 2012, PCSO undercover Tactical Drug Unit detectives received a tip of a possible grow house located at 9621 Highway 33 North in Polk City. Upon their arrival, as they approached the house on foot, detectives could smell a strong odor of raw cannabis (marijuana) emanating from within.
Upon further search of the home and premises, detectives located several large pots with soil, an air conditioner unit, and large zip lock bags in the shed located in the back yard. They also observed large black garbage bags which contained empty fertilizer cans. Inside the home, detectives found 102 marijuana plants ranging in size from one to seven feet tall.
The plants were confiscated and will be processed and then destroyed. The two men living in the home were placed under arrest and charged as follows:
Roydel Fernandez-Rivera, DOB 08/10/1983, charged with one count Cultivation of Cannabis, one count Trafficking in Cannabis over 25 pounds, one count Maintain a Dwelling for Trafficking, and one count Trafficking and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Juan Acosta-Cruz, DOB 10/02/1992, charged with one count Cultivation of Cannabis, one count Trafficking in Cannabis over 25 pounds, one count Maintain a Dwelling for Trafficking, and one count Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
