Florida Correctional Officer arrested for DUI

On Sunday, February 4, 2018, around 2:10 a.m., Polk County Sheriff's Office traffic deputies arrested 25-year-old Kneisha Smith for one count DUI. Smith, who works as a Correctional Officer for the Florida Department of Corrections at the Desoto County Correctional Institute, was driving erratically - off the roadway and on the opposite side of the roadway.
According to the affidavit, Smith was observed traveling on Central Avenue West near Westend Boulevard in Lake Wales, in her beige, 2012 Nissan 4-door, when deputies conducted the traffic stop. Smith completed a series of sobriety tests - and all test results indicated she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  A breath test was conducted at the Central Booking Facility in Bartow - her results were a BAC of .155 (the legal limit is .08).
"With so many alternative ways to travel, there are no excuses for drinking and driving in today's society. For someone who works in the Department of Corrections, she should know better than to get behind the wheel after drinking. She is lucky she didn't kill herself or another person on the roadway." - Grady Judd, Sheriff
Kneisha Smith was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail where she was released after posting a $500 bond.
Inquires in reference to Smith's employment should be directed to the Florida Department of Corrections.
