 PCSO Investigating Traffic Fatality in Lakeland 


Polk County Sheriff's Traffic deputies are investigating a traffic fatality involving a semi tractor-trailer versus a pedestrian, in the area of County Line Road just north of Spring Creek Drive in Lakeland (other nearest cross streets are Medulla and Dranefield).  The pedestrian is deceased.  There are no other injuries reported. 

Preliminary information about the crash is as follows: 

Around 2:45 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, February 6, 2013, a white 2009 International semi truck pulling a 53-foot trailer was traveling southbound on County Line Road just north of Spring Creek Drive in Lakeland when the driver (48-year-old Herman Capers of Lakeland) observed a man walking in the inside southbound lane.  Capers attempted to avoid hitting the pedestrian but was unable to avoid him.  Capers stopped the truck, called 911, and rendered aid to the victim.  EMS arrived on scene but the victim was deceased. 

The victim was positively identified as 74-year-old James Bernard Edwards of Spring Creek Drive in Lakeland.
