On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Organized Retail Crime Unit, along with Wal-Mart Loss Prevention store members, conducted a retail theft investigation at Wal-Mart, located at 5800 US Hwy 98N, Lakeland.
46-year-old Curtis May, DOB 11-16-1968, and 37-year-old Sharlene McGee, DOB 9-10-1977, were both arrested, along with May’s brother, 53-year-old Terry Lee May, DOB 03-17-1963; all three Lakeland residents.
Curtis May and McGee were seen removing a Greico baby swing from a shelf then walk to the customer service counter and returned the swing for a gift card.
The couple was then joined by Terry May as the trio proceeded to open a package of batteries, conceal the merchandise, then place the opened package back on the shelf. Then they removed a package of cooked shrimp from the deli, consumed it and discarded the package. Shortly thereafter, the trio was seen removing a bag of candy from a shelf, open the bag, consume part of the candy, then replacing the opened bag back on the shelf.
Terry May and Sharlene McGee were both charged with Dealing in stolen property, and Felony Petit Theft. Terry Lee May was charged with Felony Petit Theft.
Curtis May has been in the Polk County jail 28 times prior to this arrest. He has been in state custody seven times. His criminal arrest history includes 34 felonies with 12 convictions, 23 misdemeanors with 6 convictions.
Terry May has been in the Polk County jail 34 times prior to this arrest. He has been in state custody eight times. His criminal arrest history includes 18 felonies with 12 convictions, and 34 misdemeanor with 9 convictions.
McGee has been in the Polk County Jail once before – she was just released on March 12, 2015 after having been arrested on drug related charges. McGee receives government assistance.
During this investigation, PCSO detectives also arrested 44-year-old Raymond Carbonneau, Lakeland, charging him with the Retail Theft of a camera in an unrelated incident at the store.
All four were booked into the Polk County Jail.
