PCSO Deputies Arrest Lakeland Man for Child Pornography

On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, PCSO deputies arrested 32-year-old Joshua David Smith of Lakeland, who is an Oakland Police Department officer, for one count Directing/Promoting Sexual Performance of a Child (F-2). The victim in the case is a 2-year-old girl he had access to.

The investigation began around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, when the FBI received a message on a social networking site from 32-year-old Joshua Smith of Lakeland, in reference to sex acts Smith was committing on a 2-year-old child that Smith has access to, along with images of the child. By 6:00 p.m. that evening, PCSO deputies, working with the FBI, had placed Smith under arrest, and identified the child about whom Smith was chatting, and who appeared in the graphic images Smith was sending.

So far Smith has been charged with one count Direct/Promote Sexual Performance of a Child (F-2). Smith is currently being held in the South County Jail in Frostproof in lieu of $150,000 bond. Smith has been employed as an Oakland Police Officer, which is a small community outside of Orlando, for the past 9 years.

Further charges are pending a forensic analysis of the computer devices and cell phone seized from Smith's residence.

Per Florida State Statute 119, the identity of the child is confidential and exempt. Also per F.S.S. 119 Smith's address is exempt, as he is a law enforcement officer.
