Polk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Arrest Haines City Teacher

At approximately 9:11 pm, on Saturday, April 6, 2013, a Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted traffic stop on a vehicle as a result of the driver failing to stop at a posted stop sign at Shamrock Drive East and Highway 17-92.

The driver, and sole occupant, was 36-year-old Donya Leigh-Anne Dennard, DOB 11/01/1976, Jamestown Drive, Winter Haven.  As the deputy was speaking with Dennard, he detected the odor of cannabis coming from inside of the vehicle.  When the deputy asked for consent to search the vehicle, Dennard became nervous and advised the deputy she did have something illegal in the vehicle; when asked what the illegal contents were; Dennard told the deputy she had a bag of cannabis in the vehicle.

The deputy searched the vehicle and located three separate bags of cannabis inside of the vehicle with a total weight of 19.8 grams.

Dennard told the deputy she is a teacher at Daniel Jenkins Academy in Haines City. Dennard was charged with Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Paraphernalia.

She was booked into the Polk County Jail and has since bonded out.
