Detectives assigned to the Polk County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force arrested 53-year-old John Matthew of 2262 Lake Ariana Blvd, Auburndale yesterday (April 8, 2014) for trafficking in methamphetamine and other charges.

While surveilling his home yesterday, detectives observed Matthew bending over in an apparent attempt to retrieve something from the bushes outside his home.  Detectives made contact with Matthew and discovered approximately 1 kilo of methamphetamine in the bushes outside his home.  Matthew was found to have a digital scale, baggies with methamphetamine residue and a drug ledger on his person at the time of contact.  A search of the residence revealed other miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.

Matthew confessed to detectives that he is a methamphetamine drug dealer and was arrested without incident.  He was charged with:  trafficking methamphetamine (Over 400 grams), maintaining a residence for drug trafficking, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Matthew has 10 previous arrests in Polk County on 31 charges.

Participating law enforcement agencies in the Polk County HIDTA Task Force are:  Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Winter Haven Police Department, Lake Wales Police Department, Haines City Police Department, Bartow Police Department, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
