On Thursday, April 17, 2014, PCSO deputies arrested 30-year-old Christopher Alan Freeman, of Viking Lane in Lakeland, for violating his terms of probation as a registered sex offender and other related charges.
Freeman is currently on sex offender probation out of the 13th Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County. His original charges were 20 counts Possession of Child Pornography in June 2011. Freeman was sentenced to two years of community control to be followed by 13 years of sex offender probation. Freeman is also a registered sexual offender based on a 1997 Orange County, Texas adjudication involved a sexual assault on a seven (7) year old victim.
Freeman's order of probation stipulates the following conditions:
Special Condition #21 - Shall not be in possession of any child or adult pornography. Modification - On 12/19/2011, the order was modified to allow the defendant to have Internet access on his cell phone for school purposes only;
Condition #4 - Defendant will not possess, carry, own any firearm and will not possess, carry, or own any weapon without first obtaining consent from the Probation Officer.
On April 17, 2014, PCSO deputies and Dept. of Probation Officers responded to Freeman's residence to conduct a probation search. Two computers, two external storage devices, a cell phone, and knives longer than 3 inches were recovered, all in the possession of and owned by Freeman.
During an initial forensic examination of Freeman’s cell phone and computers, PCSO detectives located several images of adult pornography and one image depicting child pornography. Freeman was arrested for Violation of his Probation, for the pornography and weapon, as defined in FSS 948.06, and booked into the Polk County Jail.
He is being additionally charged by PCSO with one count Possession of Child Pornography. Further charges are pending more extensive forensics.
During a post-Miranda interview, Freeman shared two personal email addresses he uses. The federal guideline for the Adam Walsh Act (AWA) are established and set forth in Florida State Statute 943.0435, requiring sexual offenders to register all email and instant messenger account prior to use, and making the failure to do so a felony of the third (3rd) degree. Neither of the email addresses Freeman uses have been registered per this statute. He has been additionally charged by PCSO with one count Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration.
Freeman is currently being held on $10,000 bond for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration (Polk County charge), and is also being held for Hillsborough County for the VOP charge. Detectives are filling the Child Pornography charge via affidavit today.
"Here's a clear-cut example of a sexual offender, who sexually battered a child and deals in child pornography, who absolutely belongs in prison. In fact, with his criminal history, we wonder: 'Why was he even out of prison to begin with?' Hopefully he will be sent to prison on these new charges, and he will stay there." - Sheriff Grady Judd
