On Tuesday, April 26, 2011, Polk County Sheriff's School Resource deputies and PCSO Explorers (Explorers are high school student volunteers) conducted "Operation Pop Top" in an effort to combat the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors. The operation was conducted in north Lakeland.

During the operation, an attempt to purchase alcohol was made at 7 stores, with 6 in compliance.

52-year-old Daniel J. Dragich, DOB 12/11/58, of 239 Temple Circle West in Winter Haven, was arrested and charged with one count Sale of Alcohol to a Person Under 21. Dragich works at the Walgreen's liquor store located at 6730 US Hwy 98 North in north Lakeland.

The following stores were found to be in compliance with Florida Law and did not sell an alcoholic beverage to person under 21:

AFC Liquor Store, located at 4933 US Hwy 98 North, Lakeland

CVS, located at 6105 US Hwy 98 North, Lakeland

Amul Liquor and Tobacco, located at 7387 US Hwy 98 North, Lakeland

Circle K, located at 8324 US Hwy 98 North, Lakeland

Circle K, located at 7250 US Hwy 98 North, Lakeland
