Sheriff Judd Recognizes PCSO Members at Annual Awards Ceremony

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd and Executive Staff members of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office will recognize law enforcement, detention, civilian, and volunteer members of the agency on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. at Nora Mayo Hall in Winter Haven at the 2011 PCSO Annual Awards ceremony, for their exemplary efforts made last year. On hand to help recognize these members will be county elected officials and administrators, and other special dignitaries.

Each year, PCSO holds an awards ceremony naming the Deputy Sheriff, Detention Deputy, Civilian, Reserve Deputy Sheriff, and Volunteer of the year. In addition to these awards, this year Sheriff Judd will award eight Medals of Valor, six Purple Hearts, and 13 Meritorious Service Medals to those members who went above and beyond the call of duty during 2010.

Sgt. Wes Whitmore will be posthumously awarded the Sheriff's Citation and a Purple Heart for the fatal injuries he received in the line of duty and for the ultimate sacrifice he paid in 2010. His wife Sherry Whitmore, accompanied by family members and friends, will receive these awards in his honor.

“We hope that you will join us this year in recognizing the members who put their lives on the line every day to keep the people of Polk County safe, and the hard-working support staff who make it all possible. We know that Sgt. Whitmore's family, and the rest of our PCSO family, will appreciate your support.” - Sheriff Grady Judd

The media is invited to attend this event. Some award recipients and nominees are undercover - the Public Information Officers will be on-hand to assist you in identifying those members who cannot be photographed or videotaped. Thank you.
