Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Crystal Lake Middle School Teacher on Battery (Dating Violence) and Grand Theft Charges

At approximately 10:15 on Tuesday, May 22, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported Battery at a residence in Lakeland.

Upon their arrival deputies learned 32-year-old, Jovoni Ruth Hamilton, DOB 10/21/1979, and her boyfriend, 34-year-old Teno Dawson, 10//15/1977, 700 Galvin Drive, Lakeland, had been arguing when he pushed her down and struck her.

Hamilton went inside her home and armed herself with an unloaded handgun in an attempt to protect herself from Dawson.  When he saw the gun, Dawson began to struggle with Hamilton and Hamilton dropped the firearm onto the ground. Dawson picked up the firearm and fled on foot.

Dawson was located on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, and arrested without incident.  He was charged with Grand Theft of a Firearm and Battery (Dating Violence).  He was booked into the Polk County Jail.

Dawson listed his employer at Crystal Lake Middle School where he said he worked as an ESE teacher.

Dawson was arrested in 2009 for Battery Domestic Violence.
