Dentist Office Receptionist Arrested For Forging Prescriptions

Polk County Sheriff's detectives arrested 46-year-old Stacey Sumner of Lakeland on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, and charged her with one count Trafficking in Hydrocodone, two counts Forgery, and 2 counts Obtaining a Prescription By Fraud after investigation revealed she has been forging her father's name (Dr. William Johnson, DDS) on prescriptions for Hydrocodone pills and getting them filled to support her own addiction to the pills. Stacey works as a receptionist in her father's dental clinic, Sonrise Dental, located at 519 Bartow Road in Lakeland.

One of Stacey's friends, 62-year-old Lois McDermott of Lakeland, was also arrested for Trafficking in Hydrocodone. McDermott would pick the pills up at various pharmacies (using forged prescriptions) and deliver them back to Sumner. Over a 15 month period, Sumner has forged 519 prescriptions for her own personal use. She was arrested in 2002 for the same crime, and worked for her father, Dr. William Johnson, DDS, at that time as well.

The investigation is ongoing. Both suspects have been booked into the Polk County Jail.
