On Thursday, June 11, 2015, a victim living on Beverly Hills Road in Lakeland reported that while walking on her family's property she was attacked from behind by a fox. After being bitten twice and fighting off the fox three times, the victim was able to kill the fox.
Polk County Sheriff’s Animal Control Officers responded to retrieve the fox's carcass, which was then sent to the State Laboratory for rabies testing. The fox was confirmed positive for rabies on Friday, June 12th. The Florida Department of Health in Polk County has been notified of the exposure. The victim will seek medical treatment for her injuries and exposure.
