On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, Polk County Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit detectives arrested 24-year-old Pablo Garcia-Sanchez of Mulberry and charged him with 50 counts Lewd Battery On A Minor Under 16 Years of Age, one count Interference With Child Custody, and one count Sheltering An Unmarried Minor, for an ongoing sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl who ran away from home in Kernersville, North Carolina to be with him.
According to the affidavit, Sanchez met a 15-year-old North Carolina girl on the social networking site “Facebook” approximately three months ago. When the girl’s mother learned of the online relationship, she told Sanchez to stay away from her daughter.
Instead, Sanchez drove up to North Carolina, telling the girl, “I don’t care what your mom says, I love you.” Sanchez drove the girl to his house in Mulberry, where they proceeded to have a sexual relationship.
North Carolina detectives issued a pick-up order for the juvenile when she went missing, and recently contacted PCSO when they learned her approximate whereabouts in Mulberry. PCSO detectives went to Sanchez’s house, and located the girl inside. Both Sanchez and the girl admitted to having an ongoing sexual relationship, and both told detectives that the girl is pregnant as a result of the relationship.
Sanchez has been booked into the Polk County Jail on the aforementioned charges, and the 15-year-old girl was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center per the juvenile pick-up order from North Carolina.
The investigation is ongoing, and further charges are pending.
