Facebook Friends Find Pilfered Pit Bull Puppies

Two stolen blue pit bull puppies were recovered the same day they were stolen thanks to alert Facebook friends.

According to the affidavit, on August 4, 2011, the victim, Jennifer Drotos of Lakeland, went into her pole barn to check on a litter of blue pit bull puppies she was planning on selling. When she arrived at the horse stall inside the pole barn where the puppies were, she noticed that two of the puppies were missing (total value $1,200). Jennifer Drotos asked her daughter, Tiffany, if she knew where the puppies were. Tiffany did not.

Tiffany then posted a message on her Facebook page offering a $100 reward to anyone who found the missing puppies. Tiffany was contacted by one of her "Facebook friends" that same day, who told her she saw a photo of the suspect, Tony Anderson II, DOB 3/6/1989, of 402 Adams Road in Mulberry, that he had posted on his Facebook page, holding one of the stolen puppies. Anderson is Tiffany's ex-boyfriend.

Tiffany called Anderson and demanded he return the puppies. He returned them to her and her mother the same day. The Drotos' later contacted PCSO to report the theft.

Detectives interviewed Anderson on August 30, 2011, and he confessed to entering the pole barn without permission and stealing two puppies. He told detectives he gave one of the puppies to a friend with the intent of collecting $200 from him for the puppy, and he kept the other puppy. However, when Tiffany contacted him later that day, he returned the puppy he had in his possession to her, and then retrieved the other one he intended to sell to his friend and also brought that one to Tiffany.

Anderson was placed under arrest and charged with one count Burglary of Structure (F-3), one count Grand Theft (F-3), and one count Dealing in Stolen Property (F-2). He was booked into the Polk County Jail and has since bonded out.

Here is the photo Anderson posted on his Facebook page:
