olk County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Arrest Two Men for Lewd Behavior in Local Park

“Visitors and residents enjoy the many parks in Polk County with the expectations of relaxing with family and friends as they fish, bike, picnic, and enjoy outdoor time together.  They do not expect to see lewd behavior, and neither do we.  If you choose to commit illegal acts in our parks, you will be arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail." - Sheriff Grady Judd

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about a man who approached a park visitor soliciting him to commit a lewd act.

On Wednesday, September 3, 2014, detectives, acting in an undercover capacity, conducted an investigation at Lake Fannie Park, 4751 Lucerne Park Road, Winter Haven.  They discovered two men who solicited them for sex.

54-year-old Michael Wayne Cordell, DOB 01/25/1960, 111 Forest Avenue, Davenport, was observed shirtless in the park and appeared to be urinating.  Cordell turned toward the detective who was walking along the park trail and asked the detective to “let me see it,” suggesting the undercover detective expose himself to Cordell.  Cordell then told the detective he wanted to perform oral sex on the undercover detective.  Cordell was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Soliciting Lewdness.

Also arrested was 82-year-old John William Reynolds, DOB 03/22/1932, 242 Dixie Circle, Hines City, who was observed standing next to his vehicle exposing himself.  When Reynolds saw the detective look at him, he began to masturbate in public view and motioned for the detective to walk into a wooded area nearby. Reynolds was charged with Exposure of Sex Organ, 2 counts of Lewdness and Resisting Arrest without Force.

Both suspect were given Trespass Warnings for all Polk County Parks for the future. Both suspects were booked into the county jail in Bartow without incident.
