PCSO Deputies Arrest College Professor for Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Abuse on Disabled Adult

On Friday, October 2, 2015, PCSO deputies obtained an arrest warrant for 59-year-old Cherry Olds of Lakeland for one count Attempted Second Degree Murder and one count Abuse on Disabled Adult. Olds is a professor at Polk State College. Old turned herself in on Sunday, October 4th.

According to the affidavit, On Thursday, October 1st, PCSO received a call from Olds' adult son to report his father was the victim of attempted murder. The son informed deputies that his father is a paraplegic, he suffers from Multiple Sclerosis (MS), is bed-ridden, and cannot take care of himself or defend himself from a physical attack.

When deputies arrived on-scene, the victim, 57-year-old James Olds, told deputies that his wife, Cherry, held a pillow over his face and attempted to suffocate him twice on Wednesday, September 30th. After the first attempt, James yelled at Cherry, "You almost killed me!" to which she replied, "That's the point [expletive]" and tried to put the pillow over his face again. During the second attempt, James turned his head to the side so that he could breathe. The Olds' son heard the altercation and ran into the room, and believes he interrupted his mother from further injuring his father.

Cherry Olds was not at the residence when deputies arrived. Deputies obtained a warrant for her arrest. On Sunday, October 4th, Olds turned herself in at the Polk County Jail. She remains in jail on no bond until a first appearance hearing today.
