Armed Lakeland Man Charged with Multiple Crimes after Trespassing at Two Homes and Throwing a Dagger at One Home Owner

31-year-old Michael T. White, 2809 Old Dade City Road, Lakeland, is currently in stable condition at an area hospital after throwing a dagger at an Auburndale homeowner who defended himself with a shotgun.

At approximately 7:45 am, on Saturday, October 11, 2014, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Loop Road and Saddle Creek Road, where a suspicious person had been reported to have been entering resident’s porches.

Detectives learned White had attempted to enter two separate residences, both times, through the porch.  None of the victims involved had any knowledge of White’s identity at the time of their encounters with him.

At approximately 6:30 am, Kim Pointer stepped outside of her home on Loop Road to see White in her back yard looking toward her back screen porch.  Mrs. Pointer shouted for her husband, Steven Pointer who exited the residence from the front porch and told White to leave.   White then claimed he was a “prophet and could talk to animals,” he then began to swing a chain over his head in a circular motion and said it was “the time of Revelations.”  White told the Pointers he was thirsty and was given water and told to leave again.  The Pointers thinking White had left their property walking south, walked back to the front of their home only to hear the back porch door being shaken.  Mr. Pointer retrieved a handgun and observed White moving into the doorway of the porch.  Mr. Pointer produced the handgun and once again ordered White off the property.  White complied and Mr. and Mrs. Pointer lost sight of him.

The second encounter with White occurred minutes later, at 7:00 am, at the home of Paul and Lisa Ring on Saddle Creek Road, Auburndale.  (The two residences are within approximately 360 yards of each other.)

Mrs. Ring stepped onto her front porch to see White standing just outside of the porch.  She shouted at him to leave.  White responded that he “belonged” on the property because his sister was the “Lord of the Estate.”  Mrs. Ring once again shouted for White to leave before she saw a large knife in his waistband.  Mrs. Ring ran into her home shouting for her husband Paul who retrieved a 12 gauge shotgun and ran to the back porch.    Mr. Ring repeatedly ordered White to leave and White shouted that his sister was a witch and burned at the stake on the property so it belonged to him.  Mr. Ring continued to order White off the property.  White pulled the knife from his waistband, which was 12.5 inches in length and was double bladed, and threw it through the screen porch directly toward Mr. Ring.  Mr. Ring, told deputies he feared for his and his and his family’s safety, so he fired his weapon, striking White in the arm.  White then fled.

White was located in the parking lot of a local convenience store on Loop Road and was placed into custody.

White was transported to an area hospital where he is in stable condition.

White faces charges of Unarmed Burglary of Occupied Dwelling, Burglary of Unoccupied Conveyance, Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon, and Armed Trespassing.

Upon his release from the area hospital, he will be booked into the Polk County Jail.
