 Operation Pop Top 


On Thursday, October 27, 2011, Polk County Sheriff’s School Resource deputies, along with the assistance of a PCSO Explorer (Explorers are high school student volunteers), conducted “Operation Pop Top” in an effort to combat the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors. The operation was conducted in the south Lakeland and Bartow areas of Polk County. 

Seven stores were checked, with six in compliance with Florida State Statutes. The clerks at the following stores refused to sell alcohol to the minor:   

  • Sunoco gas station, located at 825 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland 
  • Dixieland, located at 948 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland
  • BP gas station, located at 1201 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland
  • Mobile gas station, located at 2908 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland
  • Hess gas station, located at 3117 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland 
  • Sunoco gas station, located at 1900 West Main Street in Bartow

At Grapevine Fine Wine and Spirits, located at 3239 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland, the clerk sold alcohol to the minor. Malcolm Rojan, DOB 12/24/1964, of 6447 Bristol Oaks Drive in Lakeland, was arrested and charged with one count Sale of Alcoholic Beverage to a Minor.
