Polk County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Charge Winter Haven Couple with Child Neglect

23-year-old Christopher Craft of Winter Haven was charged with Child Neglect, and Violation of Probation - Possession of Controlled Substance.

25-year-old Lauren McCann, also of Winter Haven, was charged with Child Neglect.

On Monday, October 26, 2015, Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a Winter Haven area residence at approximately 11:48 pm, after receiving a call about an unresponsive 11-month-old baby transported to the hospital.

Through the investigation detectives learned Craft and McCann had been smoking K2 earlier in the day in the presence of the baby who had been in their care.  McCann left Craft and the baby to go to a store.  When she returned she found the baby lying on a bed unresponsive and called emergency responders.

Emergency medical responders arrived and found the baby with red eyes wide open and not responding to any stimuli.  K-2 residue was noticeably present on the baby and the bed where the baby was lying.

The baby was transported the baby to Lakeland Regional Health hospital initially.  The baby was later transferred to Tampa General Hospital for care.  The baby was discharged in good condition on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, and is currently in the care of a family member.

McCann was arrested early Tuesday morning, October 27, 2015; she is being held with no bond.

Craft fled the scene on Monday, but was located and taken into custody Wednesday morning, October 28, 2015.  His first appearance is expected to be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015.

Craft has been in the Polk County Jail three times previously.  He has four prior Felony arrest charges and 14 prior Misdemeanor charges.
