In an effort to combat the illegal sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors, on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, PCSO School Resource deputies, along with the help of Polk County Explorers, checked five area stores in the Winter Haven and Auburndale areas of the county.

The following stores were in compliance with the law:

  • Citgo, 1509 Havendale Blvd, Winter Haven
  • Citgo, 1690 Havendale Blvd, Winter Haven
  • Chevron, 2049 Havendale Blvd, Winter Haven
  • Chevron, 2885 Havendale Blvd, Winter Haven

35-year-old Syed Islam of 12035 NE 2nd Avenue North in Miami was arrested and charged with one count Sale of Alcohol to Minor. He works at the Superway Food Store located at 2415 Avenue G NW in Winter Haven.

“Our deputies and Explorers conduct Operation Pop Top on a routine basis. I commend the businesses and conscientious store clerks of the above-mentioned locations for complying with the law,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “We will continue to visit businesses across Polk County and for those who do not comply, make no mistake, we will arrest you for selling alcohol or tobacco to a minor.”
