Haines City Woman Arrested And Charged With Manslaughter In Death Of Her Husband

Polk County Sheriff's Homicide detectives have arrested and charged 56-year-old Sheree Peters (DOB 9/18/1956) of 5560 Jennings Road in Haines City with one count Manslaughter and one count Tampering With Evidence in the death of her husband, James Peters.

According to the affidavit, family members and a neighbor have inquired about James' whereabouts for the past three weeks. Sheree told several different stories about where James has been -- hunting, or at the VA hospital, or outside working in the yard.

Eventually, relatives went to the Peters residence to check on James. On Friday, November 23, 2012, relatives confronted Sheree in the front yard of her home and asked about James. Sheree began acting nervous and then said she had to leave to get gas. Relatives went inside and found James' decomposing body laying on the ground, covered with a sheet.

Deputies located Sheree Peters at a hotel room in Dundee. She was in possession of crack cocaine. She has given deputies several different accounts of how James died, saying he was shot while the two of them were struggling with a gun. She told detectives the gun is still in the house, however, after searching the house detectives did not locate it. When asked again where the gun was, she then told detectives she sold the gun for crack cocaine.

Sheree Peters has been arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail on the aforementioned charges, along with Possession of Cocaine and Paraphernalia.

James and Sheree Peters have both been in the Polk County Jail on domestic violence charges against each other. Sheree was arrested in July 2010, September 2010, and January 2012, for domestic violence against James.

James was arrested in June 2006, September 2009, and March 2010, for domestic violence against Sheree.
