Fifth Positive Rabies Case Confirmed In Polk County

The Polk County Sheriff’s Animal Control Section confirmed today, Wednesday, November 30, 2011, the fifth positive rabies case in Polk County this year.

On November 22, 2011, the residents living at 758 Delancey Drive in Davenport found a bat in their house. PCSO Animal Control Officers responded to the scene and impounded the animal.

The bat's carcass was sent off for testing, and Animal Control received the State Laboratory test results today confirming that the bat was positive for rabies.

The five people living in the home have been notified and will seek the appropriate medical treatment.
