Polk County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Charge Lakeland Man with Possession of Child Porn

Late Saturday evening, November 30, 2013, Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives received information from a resident about locating a SIMS card (portable memory card for a cell phone) possibly containing child pornography images.  The memory card was located in a cell phone which was inside, what the resident believed to be, discarded trash.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Michael Allen Wright, DOB 7-5-1991, LKA:  1232 Country Club Lane, Lakeland.  Wright was charged with 15 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

On November 25, 2013, several bags of Wright’s belongings had been discarded in front of a residence on Skyview Boulevard.  A neighbor found the property and asked the homeowner if she could collect the discarded property.  The neighbor was told yes and took the bags to her home.

On November 26th, Wright contacted the neighbor and asked for the property to be returned.  The neighbor returned the majority of the property, telling deputies she forgot about some of the “trash” placed in a back room of her residence.

After locating the other property inside her home on November 30, 2013, the neighbor went through the bags locating a broken cell phone with the SIM card inside.  The neighbor placed the SIM card in her own phone and discovered images of what she believed to be child pornography.  The neighbor contacted the PCSO and detectives determined there were images of prepubescent children engaged in sexual acts on the SIMS card.

Initially, Wright denied knowledge of the images; however, during a second post Miranda interview with detectives, Wright admitted to viewing child pornography online.

Wright was booked into the Polk County jail without incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
