Lake Wales Home Invasion Suspect Arrested, Charged With Battery on Elderly

Polk County Sheriff’s Robbery detectives have arrested a Lake Wales man this evening wanted for a home invasion robbery in which a 69-year-old woman was punched in the face and her jewelry and cash was taken.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. An unknown suspect kicked in the back door of the elderly woman’s residence, waking her up from where she was sleeping on the living room couch. The suspect demanded her jewelry and then punched her on the head and face. He ran into another room and took cash from her purse before fleeing the scene.

Polk County deputies flooded the area and followed up on leads day and night searching for the suspect. On Saturday, February 27th, detectives were able to positively identify the suspect as 19-year-old Joshua L. Bishop, DOB 12/9/91, of Lot 24 - Holiday Park in Lake Wales. Detectives asked Bishop to respond to the PCSO Bureau of Criminal Investigations to be interviewed, and Bishop complied. After the interview, Bishop was placed under arrest without incident and charged with one count Robbery – Home Invasion, and one count Battery on Person Over the Age of 65.

“When this man broke into this woman’s home and beat her without provocation, it made everyone sit up and take notice, and want to help,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “From the reporters who covered this story, to the people in the community who heard about this story, to the detectives who didn’t sleep until he was caught - everyone worked hand-in-hand to ensure he wouldn’t walk the streets for long. I hope he remains behind bars for a  long, long time.”
