PCSO Seeking Volunteers for Mounted Search and Rescue Team

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is seeking volunteers who have their own horses, horse trailers, and equipment, to join the PCSO Mounted Search and Rescue Team (MSART). The MSART is called upon in emergency search and   rescue operations in terrain where vehicles cannot traverse, such as groves or heavily wooded areas. Team members may also be called upon to appear at specialty functions, such as parades, to represent the Sheriff’s Office.

Interested volunteers are asked to bring their horses to tryouts at the Stuart Center and Arena, located at 1702 US Hwy 17 South in Bartow, at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2007. Tryouts consist of a riding exercise and an obstacle course. Volunteers who meet the requirements will be provided with monthly training as part of this program.

For more information, contact D/S James Scarborough no later than March 26, 2007, at 863-860-7731.
