Polk County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Arrest Float Thief

On October 31, 2011, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary and theft which had occurred at 1224 SR 60 West in Lake Wales.

The victim reported that an unknown suspect came on to his property and unlawfully removed an air conditioner, hot water heater, refrigerator and fan.

On November 4, 2011, the victim contacted the detectives working the investigation and advised that an unknown suspect had come on to his property again, this time dismantling the victim’s fence and stealing a parade float (7 by 15 foot trailer) from the property.  The parade float was to be used by members of the Circle of Friends Ministry this upcoming holiday season.

The suspect removed all of the wood from the trailer and the two front tires, then hooked the trailer to a truck and towed it from the victim’s property.

Detectives located the trailer at Viking Recycling located in Lake Wales, it had been scrapped.  Through their investigation, detectives learned that Anthony Scottie Wyatt, W/M, DOB 05-12-86, brought the float/trailer to Viking on November 3, 2011.

Detectives located Wyatt at 5748 Pipes Road in Bartow.  As detectives attempted to arrest Wyatt, he fled on foot through a thick wooded area.  Polk County Sheriff’s Office Aviation, Agricultural, Patrol and K-9 units responded to assist.  Numerous residents in the area began reporting a subject running through yards and climbing over barbed wire fences.  Ultimately, Wyatt was apprehended near Barnes and Barnhorst Roads.

Detectives conducted an interview with Wyatt and he subsequently confessed to stealing the parade float.  He also confessed to stealing an air conditioner unit at a residence on Barnes Road around October 26, 2011 and scrapping this item as well.  Wyatt is currently being booking into the Polk County Jail.
