On Sunday, August 4, 2013, the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office received information that 21-year-old Eleno Suarez, DOB 12/16/1992, last known address, 70 West Frostproof Baptist Church Road, Frostproof, had made contact with a resident asking for assistance and that Suarez may still be in the Avon Park area. The Hardee County Sheriff's Office advised Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies and members from both agencies responded to begin a search of the area.
As previously reported, Suarez was originally wanted in a July 2013 Armed Home Invasion Robbery/Carjacking that occurred on Oakridge Drive in Frostproof. Since that time Suarez now faces charged of faces charges of Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer.
On Saturday, August 03, 2013, Suarez was observed in the area of the Town Star convenience store at the intersection of US Highway 27 and US Highway 98 in Frostproof, along with five other individuals. Suarez, with those with him, fled the area in a Ford Focus. Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies recognizing Suarez as a wanted subject, attempted a traffic stop in the area of Highway 630 and Hopson Road, but Suarez did not stop and deputies began to pursue the Focus. During the pursuit, Suarez, who was driving the Focus, fired multiple shots at PCSO deputies. No deputies were injured. Members from the Lake Wales Police Department, the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the area to assist. Suarez ultimately lost control of the Focus in a rural area of State Road 64 and US 98 in Hardee County. Deputies were able to apprehend Suarez’s five passengers, however, Suarez fled on foot.
On Sunday, after receiving the information about Suarez possible location in Avon Park, a command post and perimeter were established. Members of the Florida Wildlife Commission, State Fire Marshall, Lake Wales Police Department, and Highlands County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search.
An extensive search to include SWAT teams, aviation and numerous canine teams was conducted. At one point, deputies received new information about Suarez possibly being at a residence on Constitution Lane in Frostproof. Deputies responded to the residence and located 21-year-old Jesus Jaramillo, the second wanted suspect in the July 2013, Armed Robbery, and Armed Home Invasion. Jaramillo was placed under arrest and has been booked into the Polk County Jail.
A third suspect from the July 2013 Armed Robbery/Home Invasion and Carjacking was 19-year-old Malcolm Lewis, DOB 05/01/1994, 25 Attucks Circle, Frostproof. Lewis was in the Focus with Suarez on Saturday, August 3, 2013, while Suarez was fleeing and shooting at deputies. As previously reported, both Lewis and Jaramillo are in custody.
Suarez remains at large. He is considered Armed and Dangerous.
Suarez faces charges of Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, Armed Robbery/Home Invasion and Carjacking.
There is a $5000 reward for information leading to Suarez’s capture.
