On Tuesday, July 23, 2013, PCSO deputies arrested 41-year-old Frederick Glenn Sheffield of Indian Trails Ct in Lakeland, for a rash of smash-n-grab business burglaries that happened in three different jurisdictions in Polk County.
According to the affidavits, Sheffield broke into the following stores in Polk County during the late evening/early morning hours of July 21-22:

The PCSO investigation began when deputies reponded to an alarm call at the Advanced Discount Auto Parts store on US 98 South, around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22nd. Deputies discovered that the business' front doors had been pried open, and over $600 worth of items were taken. Approximately 20 minutes later, deputies responded to another alarm at the Sears store about 6 miles away. The front doors to that store had been pried open, and approximately $475 worth of items were taken.
Shortly after these two business burglaries, Bartow P.D. had two - at the AT&T store and the Radio Shack.
During the PCSO investigation, deputies obtained video surveillance of a suspect vehicle near the Sears, described as an older model dark-colored Ford Mustang with only one headlight operational. This information was distributed to Polk County law enforcement agencies.
Around 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23rd, Bartow P.D. Officer Hauser initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description. The driver was positively identified as Frederick Sheffield. Sheffield had in his possession a Samsung Galaxy table, confirmed stolen from the Family Pawn Shop in Lakeland.
Sheffield was arrested, and post-Miranda, confessed to the aforementioned burglaries. He told deputies he stole to support his cocaine habit.
