Master Deputy Sheriff Joseph “Shane” Robbins
08-06-2013 Polk County Sheriff's Office Deputies Arrest Armed Barricaded Suspect

Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested an armed and barricaded suspect who threatened to kill himself today in the unincorporated area near Auburndale.  The suspect voluntarily surrendered—there are no injuries and no shots were fired by law enforcement or by the suspect.

At approximately 10:20 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013, PCSO deputies responded to 4163 Berkley Road in Auburndale regarding a suspect, Christopher Darren Fulbright (DOB 10-10-1993) who barricaded himself in his father’s residence.  When deputies arrived, the suspect came out of the residence armed with a shot gun hanging on his arm from a sling. The suspect did not point the gun at any deputies.  Fulbright returned inside the residence.

Earlier today, Christopher Robins Fulbright W/M DOB 5-21-1973, the suspect’s father, reported to the Lakeland Police Department that Christopher Darren Fulbright had stolen his vehicle, a 2003 Chevy Tahoe, from inside the city of Lakeland (Southern Milling and Lumber 1508 George Jenkins Blvd., Lakeland).  His father later learned that his son was at the Berkley Road residence.  He called deputies and told them that his son was likely at his home in Auburndale, that his stolen Tahoe was there, and that his son had talked about killing himself before and that his son had said that he did not want to go back to jail.  The son no longer resided at the property.

Deputies responded to the residence on Berkley Road and set up a perimeter.  The agency’s Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team were called to assist. SWAT set up a perimeter and about 3 ½ hours later after negotiating the suspect, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Christopher Darren Fulbright came out of the house with his hands raised and surrendered (as he was instructed to do by negotiators).

No one was injured.

The attached PCSO booking photo is from October 2012.

Fulbright is being charged with:  violation of probation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and grand theft auto (by Lakeland Police Department).  He has also been Baker Acted.  He was on probation for burglary and grand theft.
