Thanks to an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip, Polk County Sheriff's Robbery detectives have arrested a Lakeland man for the armed robbery at the CVS pharmacy in north Lakeland.
On October 27, 2012, an unknown white male suspect entered the CVS store located at 6105 US Hwy 98 North and approached the pharmacy. He pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the pharmacy techs and demanded prescription drugs. When they did not comply with his demands, he fled in a small blue car.
The suspect's photo and information about the crime was sent out to the media and the public, along with the Heartland Crime Stoppers anonymous hot line, seeking tips about the suspect's identity.
Within two days, PCSO Detectives received an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip that the suspect was 30-year-old Eric Todd Romain (DOB 12/29/81) of Lakeland. Detectives created a photo-pack and showed it to the three victims, independently. All three victims positively identified Romaine as the suspect who pointed the gun at them and tried to rob them.
Detectives responded to Romaine's home and placed him under arrest. He has been booked into the Polk County Jail on three counts Armed Robbery and one count Burglary with Assault.
Romaine has been in the Polk County Jail on 10 prior occasions, for charges such as: Battery Domestic Violence, Identity Theft, Grand Theft, Possession of Controlled Substance, Forgery, Burglary, Petit Theft, Criminal Mischief, DWLSR, and VOP.
In September 2011 he was sentenced to 18 months in state prison. He was just released in March 2012.
