Message from Sheriff Grady Judd
On Thursday, my deputies arrested a man wanted in two other states
for defrauding the elderly. This man belongs to a group of traveling
scam artists, who often refer to themselves as “gypsies.” We located
a group of these folks parked in various 2007-model trucks, motor
homes, and trailers at the Theme World RV Park in Haines City. They
earn their living by fraudulently claiming to do home repairs, such
as fixing roofs and driveways. Once they get a contract and a
down-payment on the promised work, they leave town, only to set up
camp in another unsuspecting town and prey on the citizens there.
Please beware and notify your local law enforcement agency
immediately if you feel you have been a victim. With your help we
will rid Polk County of traveling criminals. |
