Homeland Security/Intelligence SectionThe Homeland Security/Intelligence Section consists of the Intelligence Unit and the Analytical Unit.
acts as a clearinghouse for intelligence gathered within the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and all other local, state and federal agencies. Any information submitted is analyzed and distributed to the proper Unit/Section. A supervisor, three detectives and three clerical assistants staff the Intelligence Unit. One of the Intelligence Unit detectives acts as a liaison for the State Attorney’s Office. The Intelligence Unit is responsible for monitoring and investigating threats to public officials, criminal extremist groups, terrorist activity, incidents involving weapons of mass destruction and organized motorcycle gang activity. The Intelligence Unit, when applicable, completes sexual predator community notifications. Members of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office are assisted by the Intelligence Unit in obtaining information related to all areas of investigation. All information submitted as intelligence is cross-referenced with any existing information. This action eliminates duplication of effort and ensures investigations are completed quickly and efficiently. In following along with the Polk County Sheriff's Office PROCAP philosophy, the Analytical Unit provides timely and current useful information to aid operational personnel in meeting their tactical crime control and prevention objectives by identifying and analyzing methods of operation of individual criminals, providing analysis of data from field interrogations and arrests. The Analytical Unit assist in agency's long range planning efforts by providing estimates of future crime trends and assisting in the identification of enforcement priorities. For the Analytical Unit to function effectively, information is disseminated to the appropriate units or persons on a timely basis. The analytical Unit collects the necessary data from various resources such as Offense Reports, Supplemental Reports, Field Interrogation Reports and Arrests made by the agency and other local Law Enforcement agencies. Once the data is collected the analysts process the information attempting to locate similarities in the crimes. |
