Question

How does a Vendor become eligible to bid on items and/or services?

Answer

The first step in becoming a Vendor would be to fill out our Vendor Information Form which is available on our Web page which is www.polksheriff.org, or picked up in person from our office or via Fax, 863.413.2892.  Once that is completed and returned to our office, a staff member will input your information into our computer system, assign a vendor number to you and/or your company and assign commodity code(s) for products and/or services which you represent.

Question

Where does the Polk County Sheriff’s Office advertise Informal and Formal (sealed) Bids?

Answer

Public Notice is given in the Polk County Democrat which is a local newspaper for advertisement of our Formal (sealed) Bids, only. Our website regularly updates current solicitations. This information can be found at Public Notices.  You can also call our office periodically to obtain information on upcoming bids at 863.413.2882.

What is the difference between an Informal and Formal Bid?

Answer

An Informal Bid is a competitive bid or price quotation for supplies or services that is conveyed by letter, telephone, or other means and does not require a sealed bid, public opening, or public reading of bids.  A Formal Bid is a competitive bid/proposal that must be submitted in a sealed envelope and in conformance with a prescribed format to be opened in public at a specified time.
