Fleet Services Section

The Polk County Sheriff's Offices Fleet Services Section is located at 2815 Winter Lake Road, south of Lakeland.  Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Fleet Services Section currently services approximately 1000 vehicles for both mechanical and cosmetic appearances.

The staff for this section of the Sheriff’s Office includes ten personnel; one Fleet Clerk, one Parts Clerk, one Chief Automotive Technician, five Automotive Technicians, one Automotive Body Technician and two Part Time Apprentices. Combined the staff has more than 70 years experience and is ASE certified.

Throughout 2006, the personnel performed 4,500 repair orders that totaled 11,500 repairs.  These repairs equaled 10,000 hours in labor with a parts cost of $349,000.  During an average month the staff cared for 400 vehicles in the maintenance shop and 5 cars in the body shop.  They strive to reduce the “down time” for vehicles and average 6-8 hours on each vehicle’s time in the maintenance shop.  The body shop averages a one week turnaround.

By performing in house regular maintenance on our vehicles, considerable amounts of money and time are saved.  Routine maintenance is performed every 5,000 miles.

Routine maintenance includes oil change, change of air filters, safety check of critical components, lubricant, and the inspection of brakes, tires and vehicle appearance.  Most repair work is performed in house, except for transmission and major engine repairs that are performed by outside vendors to minimize tying up technicians for extended periods of time.
