Hit-and-run crash in Lake Wales

Dec 28, 2019
Media Contact : Carrie Horstman, PIO

The Polk County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit is investigating a hit-and-run crash with injuries that occurred in Lake Wales. Preliminary information so far is as follows:

Around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019, the victim (a 49-year old male) was walking home southbound along the fog line near the 3800 block on North Scenic Hwy (AKA State Road 17) when he was struck by a 1994-1997 blue/green Honda Accord, according to evidence left behind at the scene. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, and someone who heard the crash ran outside and called 911. The victim was critically injured.

The front passenger side mirror from the suspect vehicle was left behind at the scene. Detectives believe the car was a factory green color called "Eucalyptus Green Pearl." A photo of a similar car, and photos of the actual mirror, can be seen here.

If anyone has information about this incident, they are urged to contact PCSO at 863-298-6200.
