Four felonies and four misdemeanors for armed Davenport man after threats and physical violence

Media Contact: Brian Bruchey

On Monday afternoon, October 26, 2026, at around 1:30, the Polk County Sheriff's Office was informed that a Davenport man was threatening to kill family members, and also threatened "suicide by cop" if deputies arrived.

PCSO deputies arrived, and found the suspect walking in the Florida Pines neighborhood off of US 27 in Davenport.

The deputies made contact with suspect and informed him that they needed to speak with him, but wanted to pat him down for weapons first.

The suspect refused and began backing away.  He refused multiple commands to cooperate, so deputies attempted to detain him. As the deputies put hands on the suspect, he began fighting them and their efforts.

A Taser was used to subdue the suspect, and deputies were then able to secure him.

At that time the deputies noticed that the suspect was bleeding from a laceration on his arm, and subsequently discovered he had a knife.

The suspect was disarmed and then transported to the hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, the suspect had provided a false name to deputies, but they were eventually able to identify him as 37-year-old Maxwell James Murrain of Davenport.

A check on Murrain's family members revealed that they were all safe.

After his medical treatment, Maxwell Murrain was taken to the Sheriff's Processing Center and was charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (F3), Resisting with Violence (F3, 3-counts), Resisting without Violence (M1, 3-counts), and False ID to LEO (M1).
