On January 1, 1978, 49-year-old Jose Figueroa Martinez was shot to death inside Mr. R’s Lounge, located on US Hwy 17/92 in Haines City. Another victim was also shot, but survived his injuries. The suspect, an unknown Mexican male, fled the scene in a dark-colored Camaro with Michigan tags.
